Bike & Build
What is Bike & Build?

Bike & Build organizes cross-country bicycle trips which benefit affordable housing groups like Habitat for Humanity. In the Summer of 2010 I will join together with 30 other 18-25 year olds to begin this adventure. Prior to the journey I must raise $4,000 for the organization, undergo rigorous training, and fulfill my fair share of "sweat equity" to a local affordable housing group. During our eight weeks on the road we will stop for six build days and only three days off. The route will take us from Boston, MA through the back roads of NY, PA, OH, IN, IL, MO, OK, TX, NM, AZ, and finally Santa Barbara, California.

Every night of our trip we will do a presentation to locals explaining why affordable housing is an issue that needs their attention. We will also be raising money as we go along. To this date, Bike & Build trips have raised over 2.3 million dollars for the cause.

Where does my donation go?
Proceeds from Bike & Build events are distributed through four methods:
1) En-Route Donations: Bike & Build supports housing groups in the communities their events visit.
2) Competitive Grants: Riders on each trip will receive grant applications and award funding through a team based competitive selection process. Riders will encourage affordable housing groups from their area to apply for these grants.
3) Individual Rider Grants: Each rider will allocate a portion of their funding to an affordable housing organization of their choice.
4) Pre-Arranged Donations: Bike & Build will make pre-determined contributions to fund projects executed by the groups we work with to produce our events (Habitat for Humanity, Rebuilding Together, etc.)
