A friend told me that it's one of the dirtiest bodies of water in America, so don't let images be deceiving. There are many bridges that run across the river linking the cities of Fort Myers and Cape Coral, the one pictured here is the 'Midpoint.' The river runs a long ways and eventually empties into the Gulf of Mexico. My friends and I have spent many days tubing on the river or jetskiing or boating. I wish I had more time to take advantage of the waterways but I don't have a boat or any means to unless I go out with a friend. Supposedly there's a constant worry of alligators and other creatures lying just below the surface, and the river is so dark and gloomy it's hard to imagine there's not something waiting for you. Either way, I think this shot is rather peaceful. The distance breach of land is the city of Cape Coral... Interesting fact: when Hurricane Charley hit our area the storm surge brought this river up over the sea wall and 100+ feet inland so the river's edge began in the middle of the street. It was a surreal experience... |
